My name is Levi.
I was born on Summer Solstice, June 21 2008.
Life seemed perfect, but 3 days later something bad happened - I turned blue and had to be brought back to life.
I was rushed to the hospital, put on life support. They told my mommy I was having seizures every 2 minutes. In the NICU the doctors did lots and lots of tests, poked me all day long with needles, took x-rays of my brain, stuck tubes down my nose and put wires on my head. It was so scary, but I was really, really brave.
In one of the x-rays the doctors found out that my brain had a big hurt in it, something so bad they couldn't fix. Some of them even told my mama to give up on me. But she refused to. She believes in me so much.
Over the years the doctors have said a lot of scary things to me. They have diagnosed me with something called 'catastrophic seizure disorder' (sometimes I can have over 1000 seizures a day), brain damage from lack of oxygen and labeled me with cerebral palsy and blindness. They say I will never walk, talk or be able to live like other kids. But you know what? They don't have a crystal ball. They can't predict my future. Only I can! Did you know that a child's brain is still very plastic? Just like Play-Doh. That means anything is still possible.
Everyday, against all odds, I get a tiny bit stronger. I hope and pray that my future stays wide open. I know it will take a lot of love and a little magic, but I believe I'm a tiny warrior and can conquer this.
That hope keeps me believing that my miracle will come one day.
Thank you for letting me share my story with you.
